I’ve meant to talk about this for quite some time now but as a Packer fan and now that week 2 is on the horizon, I just want to spill some thoughts I have had going into this weeks game.
1. I always have predicted the Jets as a trap game but now it is a must win game.
Yes, every game in the NFL is a must win. But this Packers game coming up at the Jets I said is a trap cause everything about it reminds me of last years Cleveland game. Big opponent the week before, a lowly but talented AFC team now along with them doing an alternate jersey. The Browns wore their all brown jersey last season in the 13-10 week 3 upset and New York is doing a whiteout this weekend. Why it is a must win now is simply because fan morale and momentum is so low in Titletown right now. Yes it is only the start of 2026, but Green Bay continued how they left off 2025 which was losing a game that they had a 10+ point lead on the road. Green Bay’s weaknesses also showed in the loss to Minnesota, if they start off 0-2, it could get even uglier real fast. The Packers simply put need a win.
2. I don’t think Lafleur should get canned yet but I think his seat should be flaming hot right now.
Packers coach Matt Lafleur once again was in the headlines for how they lost last week. Green Bay kicked a field goal to go up 25-17 (+8), but a penalty gave him the option to take the points off the board and go for it on fourth down which he took and his decision failed. That opened the door for the Vikings to complete the comeback. In these six straight losses dating back to Denver last year, a common theme has been fundamental mistakes and overthinking plays. Even if Green Bay wins a close one vs the Jets, I don’t think that will take pressure off of him as Lafleur has had a lot of close wins vs the lowly teams of the NFL. But a loss would just add to the fire that him and the organization is under.
3. Jordan Love and the receiving core need respect.
Despite the coaching flaws and the bad O-line, something on that offense that can’t go unnoticed is the play of quarterback Jordan Love and the receivers. Love went 21/42 for 387 passing yards on the day, and WR Christian Watson had 6 receptions for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns. Matthew golden had 6 receptions for 95 yards. And TE Tucker Kraft in his first game back had 3 for 65 yards. This is against Brian Flores’ defense which is one of the best units in the league.
4. The refs vs Minnesota were bad, but like the Dez Bryant catch, it wasn’t the determining factor in who won or lost.
It is fair to say that the refs in the Vikings vs Packers game were bad. The drive where Minnesota took the lead when Green Bay had them stopped 3 times was filled with bad calls, however had one gone the Packers way, there still was plenty of time Green Bay needed to erase. That game was not over yet, and the Packers showed nothing that told me they would’ve ended the game. Its like how we say that if Bryant caught the ball in the 2014 Divisional round game, an MVP Aaron Rodgers still had time to continue to shred the Dallas D. The Packers had plenty of chances to put the kill shot in Minnesota and didn’t, in fact when the Vikings took the lead, the Packers totally crumbled and that’s why a 22-17 Packers lead turned into a 39-22 loss.
5. Packers fans: on social media, the best defense right now is keeping quiet
I have seen a lot of Packers fans getting ridiculed for saying that the only reason why we lost to Minnesota was cause of the refs/injuries or using our Super Bowls as a cope for posts making fun of how we haven’t won a game since early December. Hey I hate to say it but just keep quiet, the Bears, Vikings and Lions fans that are making these posts are looking for reactions so don’t give it to them. Yes we are a more successful franchise than the other three but that doesn’t mean squat right now. Unfortunately we Packers fans have nowhere to talk until we can actually show we can close out a game.
