1. Toronto Blue Jays (76-77) at Texas Rangers (76-77)
These two teams as of now are tied for the first one out of the AL wildcard as both sit 2 back. For as wild, wide open, bad, whatever you want to call this league, this series is as big as it can get. The winner of this series could possibly be tied for a playoff spot this weekend while the loser would be in trouble.
2. Milwaukee Brewers (95-58) at Baltimore Orioles (75-78)
The best team in baseball, the Milwaukee Brewers travel to Baltimore this weekend. The Brewers look to stay in the No. 1 seed in the AL while the Orioles right now sit just 3 back of the Wildcard race in the AL. Milwaukee has already locked up the division so they’re playing for seeding, albeit in a very loaded NL while Baltimore is playing for their life.
3. Boston Red Sox (83-70) at Tampa Bay Rays (93-59)
The Tampa Bay Rays can put the AL East almost to bed this weekend. Right now the Rays hold a 5 game lead over the Yankees and need 6 games to clinch it. If Tampa gets the ALE, they also get the No. 1 spot in the AL which means home field advantage throughout a wide open AL postseason. On the other hand, the Red Sox currently hold the No. 5 seed but are 5 above. While its a few game lead, with their opponent, that number could easily shrinks and it could get more stressful. The winner of this series will be feeling more comfortable for their current race they are a part of while the loser it will be crunch time.
4. Atlanta Braves (89-64) at Houston Astros (77-76)
If I told you this matchup with these records are the current NL East and AL West leaders. I don’t think anyone would believe me. Atlanta right now has a 4 game lead over the Phillies in the NL East, with a series win the Braves can all but put away a playoff spot and also be in a more comfortable position in the East. Houston on the other hand, ANY game matters with just a 1 game lead in the West.
5. Detroit Tigers (72-81) at Chicago White Sox (78-75)
The White Sox are in the thick of the wild AL Central race with the Guardians. As of now, Chicago holds the tiebreaker over Cleveland. They can make hay this weekend by beating Detroit and pushing them to elimination. Detroit who looked like they were going to make one last stand now sits 6 back from the wildcard and has 3 games from being eliminated
