Over Halloween weekend, the CFB slate on paper looked to be a boring slate. Only two games were between ranked teams which was No. 17 Florida vs No. 3 Georgia and No. 22 Houston at No. 13 Texas Tech. However, the weekend itself was far from a doozy.
A very wild day in the Big Ten headlined the craziness. On FOX’s Big Noon Saturday game, the Iowa Hawkeyes who came off a 13-10 loss at Minnesota dismantled the No. 25 Wisconsin Badgers 30-0. It was the second straight season that Iowa shutout Wisconsin and the Badgers who went from a honeymoon weekend with the 24-7 upset over No. 16 USC all of a sudden is back to uncertainty.
The aforementioned Trojans played the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes at home. USC after the tough loss to Wisconsin was under a lot of heat and put it to bed temporarily with a 30-18 dismantling of the Buckeyes. Ohio State, who was coming off the big win at No. 5 Indiana was facing uncertainty with freshman QB Luke Fahey and during Saturday night, Fahey and the offense looked disjointed. Without QB Julian Sayin, life might get real rough here for Head Coach Ryan Day
The Hoosiers that Ohio State beat continued to barely scrape across another win. No. 4 Indiana hosted Minnesota in a game that the Hoosiers were 20 point favorites and also had College Gameday along with CBS’ No. 1 crew in Brad Nessler and Charles Davis announce the game. The hype ended up being worth it as the Hoosiers escaped with a 23-16 win in overtime. What the score doesn’t show is that starting QB Josh Hoover got benched due to struggled and Indiana tied the game with a 60-yard field goal from Paddy McAteer.
There’s been some real odd results all year, like two No. 1 ranked teams falling in back to back games to unranked teams. We almost had a third No. 1 fall to an unranked team with No. 1 Miami escaping North Carolina 38-35. These three games though from the Big Ten show the parody that the sport can show.
